Although 2008 seems far enough behind us, the “scandal” of Edison and Gillian’s bedroom photos hitting the web are still fresh in Hong Kong minds. Gillian, born in Hong Kong, and Edison, born in Canada both had flourishing careers in Hong Kong cinema when body parts popped up on the web and sent the conservative Hong Kong film industry into a condemnation of them and their careers. For asian stars that is death of their careers unlike in the USA where such scandal brings more attention and more roles! Edison even had a news conference to apologize. Huh!? Someone takes your photos and publishes them and you have to apologize for your private actions? Well that is Asian cinema! But alas the storm has died down and perhaps fans get the last say on who they want to see on the big screen! Gillian has three Hong Kong movies out since then and Edison managed to come back to his North American roots with roles in “The Grudge 2”, “Batman: The Dark Knight” and “Almost Perfect” which is being screened throughout North American and may be screened in China. And his Hong Kong career didn’t stop either because his films are still be released, so perhaps the scandal did for him (except being banned from Chinese films) what it does for all actors and actresses in Hollywood…brings you needed attention and new roles!
