On April 15, 2014, Kevin Taejin Kreider checks out the Venice Beach California Skateboard Park before hitting the streets on his way to New York City. Not in a car, but on his skateboard. Almost two months later, Kevin is about to roll into Chicago having completed 2/3 of the journey. It all started like this…
You are a very successful model having worked for the top modeling agencies, including Ford Models and Wilhelmina Models, your acting career is taking off, you are at your prime, and the sky is the limit. Then one day you notice some of your hair is falling out and suddenly you have random bald spots and the problem is not stopping. Your doctor tells you, Alopecia Areata, an autoimmune disease also known as spot baldness that can be caused by stress, and before long most of the hair on your head has fallen out. You are an actor and a model, so now what!?
Knowing it can be brought on by stress, Kevin decided to take a break, reflect, re-evaluate his career and contemplate this obstacle thrown in his lap. Kevin shaved off the rest of the hair on his head, flew to Los Angeles from his home in New York City to work on a couple of films (with his new bald head) and then decided to tackle another obstacle that he purposely put in his way, skateboarding back to New York City from Los Angeles. All alone, but himself, just Kevin and His Skateboard.
What started out as a solitary idea of something he had dreamed of doing, he turned into a new opportunity, to film the journey and document not only his own self discovery, but documenting “obstacle stories” from people he meets along the way. Limited to a $40/day budget for his three month journey, his trip across America has brought him into strangers homes to spend the night, opportunities for home cooked meals here and there, countless news stories about his journey and most importantly, interviews with American’s from the heartland about their own obstacles.

If you would like to contribute to his journey, for a $20 donation to paypal (kevkreider@yahoo.com), Kevin will send you a t-shirt and a wrist band.
