The 2013 Asian American International Film Festival begins on July 24th, and will be screening a great feature film called Beyond the Mat.
Official synopsis:
Aaron MILLER, a high school wrestling star who is well loved but sticks out as a Vietnamese adoptee in his white Middle America town, is facing a disintegrating friendship with his best friend Bo. They draw apart when a new Vietnamese American student Linh TRAN arrives and causes Aaron to question what he truly knows about himself. [Director] Van M. PHAM’s debut feature is a solidly told and well-paced classic sports movie synthesizing athletic excitement and a personal journey, set in the visually fresh field of high-school wrestling.
