Working Girls is a touching and eye-widening assemblage of three documentary shorts countering the patriarchal image of women in Indonesian society. Part 3 of this project, Ulfie Goes Home, is directed by Nittan and documents a transgender woman, Ulfie, who is on a journey to her religious hometown. Living with HIV, Ulfie has not visited her family and friends for years in fear of discrimination. Once back however, she discovers the lack of sexual health information and takes on the role of an AIDS activist, educating the community about unsafe sex practices. Being able to get a peek into Indonesian society in and of itself is great, but to be able to interview one of the directors of this documentary was amazing!
