As you know we often deviate and expand the definition of the Asian-American film industry when we find something of interest. In the case of Aarif Lee we think you can expect to see him everywhere in the next few years probably even in Hollywood.
Aarif Lee is from Hong Kong of Malay-Arab-Chinese ancestry, and completed his college degree in the UK before returning to Hong Kong to start a singing career where he won “Best New Performer” at the 29th Hong Kong Film Awards in 2010, for his performance in the film Echoes of the Rainbow. If he were just a singer maybe we wouldn’t even notice him except Aarif has already starred in three films in 2010 and is filming his fourth now. That is an amazing accomplishment for someone who in 2009 just started a singing career. But that isn’t even the most interesting thing for us! One of the films he did that has been getting buzz is called Bruce Lee, My Brother about the early life of Bruce Lee told from the vantage point of his brother which stars…yep…Aarif Lee as the young Bruce Lee. Because Bruce Lee is such an icon that fact alone will bring him some amount of fame, and certainly some success for the film. Once we get our hands on the film we will gladly give readers a review.
Aarif is a singer/actor whose star is already rising very fast in Hong Kong, so we hope to get a chance to put his English skills to the test for an interview!
